Columbus fairly or unfairly symbolizes the european/western philosophy of imperialism, civilization, capitalization and hubris that is unparalleled to anyone else in human history.
Unfortunately, if it weren't for this guy and other explorers like him then we probably would not have the world we live in today.
for better or worse, columbus is partly responsible for the world that we live in today.
