Question of the Day (22-Dec)

People,

Ok, check it. With the shine now on Barack and Michelle, I know its good to see a successful Black family unit. We do need that kind of inspiration these days, especially with so many failed relationships. But for those we see in the spotlight, like the Obama's, the Smith's, etc. .......do we covet too many relationships?

I mean, we don't know their struggles behind the scenes. We don't know what kind of strain there is in their relationships.

Hey...these are mere examples. I couldn't think of any other known Black couple that has lasted more than 10 yrs.

I think it is ok to admire, but without an expectation of perfection, that whatever it is you are admiring or perhaps coveting, should not be worshipped as devoid of fault. As you say, you don't know what goes into relationships outside of your own, the work, the challenges, etc.

Yeah, I don't know about the Smith's, Big Reub, but it is important to highlight Black relationships that are doing well. There are a whole lot of failed relationships and with the horrible statistics shoved in our faces every day, we need to know that Black and Brown families still exist.

Let's see, we have...

-Samuel Jackson and his wife
-Denzel Washington and his wife
-Bill Cosby and his wife
-Blair Underwood and his wife
-Ice Cube and his wife/

Drawing a blank--but I know there a few more.

Whether real or fake--seeing Black love gives us all inspiration.
