of all the villains in the comic sci - fi world, the joker is the illest.
he has no origin, no reason to be the way he is but that's just what makes him great. that's what makes him the illest.
he's smart and deadly and a comic riot. nothing is better than the way he kills somebody and then tells a joke about it. heath ledger played the hell out of him in the dark knight movie. rest in peace, heath.

Wasn't he like a mob boss that went nuts.. folks from the mob cartel tried to knock him off with that chemical bath that jacked up his face.. he got locked up in an asylum... escaped and became even crazier..
or at least that's what I recall..don't know anything about his childhood other than he was a street punk.
Well, actually, the origins of the Joker are quite mysterious according to the Dark Knight comics. Please understand that there is a difference between the Dark Knight and Batman from Batman & Robin. The Dark Knight is a lot more selfish, hardcore, and ruthless.
The first set of Batman movies became corny after the first one, but they also embellished the characters a bit for the movies. This Dark Knight series, I'm more comfortable with b/c it gives us a more Raw & Uncut Batman (Dark Knight). Which means that his adversaries are a lot more sociopathic also as they better reflect the comic book version of the characters from the Dark Knight.
....but the Joker is a maniac. Heath Ledger played the hell out of that role. The Illiest Villain.
