THE WATCHMEN - TOO SMART A MOVIE FOR DUMB AMERICA!

Maybe ten years ago "The Watchmen", a movie based on a comic book would have been a movie that could have been understood by the masses. But not today in 2009. When America is steeped in dumbness as evidenced by Tyler Perry's Madea goes to jail and Paul Blart Mall Cop both being number one at the box office two weeks in a row, The Watchmen is just the right movie at the wrong time. Clocking in at almost three hours (2:40 R.T.) this comic book movie was too full of ideas and not enough of action for the people today.

Granted I did see it at the most ghetto theater on Earth (The Magic Johnson Movie Theater) but I am sure if I saw it anywhere in Hillbilly America those inbreds would have a hard time understanding the theme, the messages and the subtleties of a movie like The Watchmen. I am sure kids that thought they were going to see a film with wall to wall action (Think MAtrix) were extrememly dissapointed when they saw a film with 80's references that they just were too young to pick up.

To be fair, The Watchmen could have been trimmed down but since the length was tied to the screenwriter's loyalty to the comic book, I could let that go. Acting wise the worst was the chick. She obviosly is better at fellatio than mis en scene because she was horrible in the film. Seeing a Well - hung, swinging limp Blue Dick several times was a bit much - NO HOMO AND NO PUN but all in all The Watchmen was a good film for the snobby comic book nerd. For the non ghetto geeks not so much.

For those that didn't like it don't fret - Transformers 2 will be out soon.

Yeah I went in knowing that it was a dark movie, but the way the trailers were set up, I expected some action. Granted, when I first left the theater I SLAUGHTERED that movie...well into the next afternoon. I had to rethink my expectations and the actual movie. No matter how much you try to say this was for the intellectuals (or as I see it.... elitists)the movie was BORING. It was interesting to see another perspective of heroes. Supposedly, that is what the Dark Knight series tried, but at least Dark Knight was more entertaining. It didn't bother me that Mr. Manhattan had his lil man hanging out during most of the movie. If it was a woman then folks, mostly men, wouldn't be crying about it. It is what it is....America is too sensitive about nudity and sex. The movie did not go over my head, just false advertising. I got something different than what I wanted. At least I saw it in Imax......damn this blog was too long like the movie...had my knees aching and a numb booty.....

didn't see it yet as it was sold out. sorry, but you have to make the exception for sci fi movies and get your ass down to Imax. I agree, people can't think. Matrix was FULL of ideas and thought, but they covered their ideas in symbolism and coated it with action.

As a bona-fide comic book Greek-tress, I was left feeling supremely underwhelmed. With an admittedly cursory knowledge of the comic book storyline, I think they went the WRONG way with bringing this story to screen. It was TOO LONG because it spent entirely too much time on character development for the wrong characters. The chick's storyline as horrendously irrelevant to the main point, which is, to bring peace there must be a common enemy. Sorry.. hopefully those who haven't seen it didn't read this far.

Ultimately, I believe the core (original story) is great, but the movie sucked.. not because its out of the time range or memory of the potential threat of nuclear disaster, but because it was simply a bad screenplay. Sorry Roc.
